The author discusses the electrification of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) using 25 kV AC systems. The traction supply points usually consist of two 132/25 kV single phase transformers fed from separate 132 kV circuits. Each transformer feeds an incoming 25 kV vacuum circuit breakers in the BR feeder station. The design of the scheme and the final outcome are looked at.
