Plastics will be used more and more in the automotive industry. A great domaine for plastics is the interior trim or other non-structural parts. Only 5 % up to 20 % of plastics are used for technical functional parts and components. The consveratism in the application of high performance plastics is much greater in the automotive industry than in the aircraft industry. Main reason for this is certainly the high series-production and the cost structure. The development activities can be split in two ways: existing products are further developed or completely new materials will be used. Longfibre reinforced products are added, which are injection mouldable. The recycling possibility and the thermoformability for thermoplastic prepregs offer new possibilities. The application developments are presented from the interior trim like dashboards up to structural parts.
