The in-line inspection using 'intelligent pigs' is no longer an option limited to large underground pipelines. The experience of 3P Services shows that pipelines that were -only a few years ago expected to be non-piggable may now be inspected with custom made applications of its PiCoLo system. Cost-effective solutions were found and inspection jobs performed that cover 100 % of the surface of the pipelines. Operators of field and gathering lines in oil fields or product pipelines in refineries, the chemical industry and power plants were satisfied who until recently had not considered this technology. Summarizing, the following achievements have been made with regard to the availability of intelligent pigs for corrosion inspection: Pipelines of DN 100/4' can be inspected Narrow pipe bends do not prohibit intelligent pigging any longer. For DN 150/6' and larger, tools are available to negotiate the 1.5D/90 degree bend. In general, all plant piping can now be inspected, in the case of insulated and heated pipe even without removal of the insulation. Bi-directional inspection tools are available for DN 100/4' and larger. These are operated in a pump-in/pump-out action in pipelines which, for whatever reason, are accessible from only one side. Internally coated pipelines cän be pigged. Major corrosion spots can even be found through 8 mm cement coating.
