Description The present volume is devoted to the thermophysics of aeroassisted orbital transfer vehicle (AOTVs). As its title suggests, it is truly a progress volume for it illustrates the recent advances and current thinking with regard to AOTVs. The papers within this volume were selected from the Thermophysics and Atmospheric Flight Mechanics sessions of the AIAA 22nd Aerospace Sciences Meeting in Reno, NV in January 1984 and the AIAA 19th Thermophysics Conference in Snowmass, CO in June 1984. They were revised and updated especially for this volume and are grouped into four chapters, each of which is a distinct and coherent unit: flowfield analysis, trajectories, thermal projection, and surface effects.
