This study investigates the unsteady interaction between the propeller slipstream and NACA0012 airfoil, which causes laminar separation at a moderate angle of attack and nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics at low Reynolds numbers. The Reynolds number based on chord length was set to c , and the propeller advance ratio was set to J = 0.8 . Wind-tunnel experiments were conducted, including aerodynamic force measurement and time-resolved particle image velocimetry visualization. Regarding time-averaged characteristics, the propeller installed condition exhibits a linear change in lift; reduced drag; and, consequently, an improved lift-to-drag ratio. Consistent with the aerodynamic characteristics, suppressed separation and reduction in wake deficit are confirmed in the time-averaged flowfields. Additionally, vortex formation and shedding synchronized with propeller rotation are observed in unsteady flowfields at the middle and high angles of attack. This periodic and large-scale vortex structure suggests the possibility of further improving the performance of the propeller–wing system in low Reynolds numbers.
