Calculation and experimental studies of the functioning of shaped charges with hemispherical copper liners of degressive (decreasing from the top to the base) thickness are carried out. Based on numerical modelling, within the framework of the two-dimensional axisymmetric problem of continuum mechanics, the mass-velocity and energy- velocity characteristics of the formed shaped charge jets for five variants of hemispherical liners used in the experiments and differing in the ratio of thicknesses at the apex and at the base are analysed. During the experiments, the speed of the head of the formed shaped charge jets, the depth of penetration of a stacked target of steel disks by them, and the sizes of holes punched in the disks were determined. The data obtained in the experiments on increasing the speed and reducing the mass of the head sections of shaped charge jets that occur with an increase in the difference in the thickness of the hemispherical liner at the top and at the base are in good agreement with the results of numerical calculations. According to the results of experiments for shaped charges with hemispherical liners of degressive thickness, an increase in the influence of fabrication technological inaccuracies on their functioning, eliminating or significantly limiting the increase in penetration action, was recorded. For one of the options of liner with a degressive thickness, an increase in the average depth of target penetration by two experiments was obtained by 7.5 % relative to the liner of constant thickness.
