Using the coupled neutron-proton space radiation transport code BRYNTRN, estimates of interplanetary crew doses and dose rates in various critical body organs are made, behind various thicknesses of aluminum shielding, for incident protons and their reaction products from the recent solar particle event of July 2000. Separate estimates are made and compared for the spectra measured by the GOES 8 and GOES 10 satellites. Organ doses estimated using the actual body composition and the customary equivalent water approximation are compared. Radiation risks from this event are compared to those estimated for other large events that have occurred previously in the manned space era.
