As we enter the twenty first century, humankind is blessed with unprecedented mobility. Global circumnavigation has become a matter of hours, compared with the proverbial 80 days of Jules Verne. Improvements in rural transport have lowered the costs of agricultural production; directly, by increasing access to markets and credit, and indirectly by helping to develop the nonagricultural rural economy. Improvements in urban transport have increased labor market mobility and access to employment opportunities while changing the scale and form of urban agglomerations. Improvements in inter city and international transport have facilitated commerce, trade, tourism and supported the globalization of industry and services. But the blessings of good transport networks and services have not beneficiated mankind uniformly. Peak hour traffic congestion is worsening, especially in the suburbs, exacting an economic toll in lost time and productivity. Travel in single occupancy vehicles is the greatest contributor to urban air pollution, which poses health risks for millions. It is also the single largest factor in the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which risks causing climate changes and global warming. One of the most contentious issues is the impact of mobility—on forests and other ecological habitats and cultural sites. Long-distance trucking is a major source of transmission of communicable diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, in developing countries. With the augmented global mobility, these fallacies seem to engraving the humanity. Being blessed with the inventions of information technology, the traditional pattern of mobility is sure to change. E-commerce, E-money has already become the dominant business mode in the western countries. E-travel is sure to flourish. In order to acclimatize in the coming future; the blessings from virtual traveling must be winnowed to ameliorate the condition of the people of the world.
