The reasonable distance between adjacent intersections of urban roads improves traffic efficiency, but no reasonable regulation exists in the current standard. To control the intersection spacing of urban roads, the minimum spacing of intersection nodes of urban trunk roads was studied. Firstly, the distance between nodes was defined. Secondly, taking the urban two-way six lane road as the research object, the paper analyzed the driving demand of left turning vehicles on the main road between two adjacent intersections. The calculation model of the minimum distance between intersection nodes was established. Finally, based on the traffic flow theory, driving behavior characteristics, lane changing model and queuing theory, the recommended minimum spacing of intersection nodes was proposed. The results show that the minimum spacing increases with the increase of design speed, and greater design speed leads to faster growth rate.
