Facing the rapid urbanization and motorization, traditional urban structure with ultra-high dense mono-center is undergoing changes. How to construct a public-transport-oriented metropolitan spatial structure and promote sustainable development is a major concern of urban planning in China. This paper takes Shanghai as a case study. Through years of investigation and study, recommendations have been proposed to optimize metropolitan spatial structure with the construction of rail transit.
