It is important to provide drivers with real-time guidance information from Variable Message Signs(VMS) for better driving. There are various factors that can determine drivers' behavior, including driver's character, road character, and VMS's quality. This paper used a revealed preference survey approach to real behavior of driver. The survey faces different types of vehicle drivers. Influence of traffic guidance information to drivers is analyzed in this paper. The main findings are as follows. VMS has a distinct effect on drivers' choice. Driving years and familiarity serve as positive factors in drivers' diversion behavior, and most drivers are significantly influenced by congestion and incidents. For better supporting VMS system and construction of transportation information system, it is significant to explore the effect of VMS on drivers' behavior.
