In this thesis, the systems architecture of TUBiX20, a modular microsatellite platform family targeting a broad variety of missions in the range of 10 to 50 kilogram launch mass, is investigated. The author analyses the performance requirements for the individual subsystems for such a flexible and scalable platform and develops detailed technical solutions for their implementation taking into account aspects such as failure tolerance. The architecture designed for the platform is based on a central power and data bus system that interconnects a number of computing nodes, which also act as an interface to components such as sensors or actuators. In this way, the interface provided by the individual components is decoupled from the standardised interface of the platform, so that new components can be integrated without major modifications of the platform itself. Furthermore, three exemplary spacecraft utilising the TUBiX20 platform are analysed with respect to the advantages resulting from the selected architecture. TechnoSat and TUBIN were launched into orbit in 2017 and 2021, respectively, while QUEEN is still under development. The experience gained during the realisation of the first two missions resulted in a number of modifications in the platform’s architecture and implementation, which were taken into account for QUEEN.
