Combining various detection and tracking functions required in space rendezvous and lunar landing operations reduces overall weight and provides weight budget for more reliable component selection, redundant usage of critical components, and automatic self-check features within equipment; multifunction radar design satisfying these requirements is described; design is based upon integration of common antenna/receiver/transmitter modules to provide needed functions of range, range-rate, as well as radial altitude and tangential velocity relative to Earth or lunar surfaces as required.
