Radiation shielding requirements can significantly affect design of spacecraft systems; some effects of on-board and space radiation on shielding requirements for variety of missions are examined, which include stopover missions to Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ceres, and Ganymede; chemical and nuclear propulsion systems (including high-thrust and electric) are considered; results are presented for effect of mission duration on spacecraft shielding requirements; galactic, reactor, and solar radiation are considered.
