Tendency of increasing speed is to make most economical ship still larger; advantage of deep-draft ships over shallower-draft is greater speed; better material and better designs of construction will reduce weight of ship itself; these considerations will still further emphasize general conclusions that for given speed the deeper the draft the lower is cost of transportation.
