L-p-ratio nonregenerative gas turbine engine, having undesirable high specific fuel consumption at partial power, limits productivity of ST OL and VTOL aircraft; by incorporating regenerators with l-p-ratio gas turbines or by use of h-p-ratio engines, fuel logistics of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft may be improved substantially; paper compares h-p and l-p-ratio nonregenerative and l-p-ratio regenerative gas turbine engines, to be expected in early 1970's; missions are analyzed for utility helicopter and medium fixed wing transport aircraft; elementary cost and productivity comparisons are made to reflect engine potential in terms of overall systems, including cost, maintenance, and fuel savings.
