Problem of minimizing flight time of vehicle is investigated using Mayer formulation of calculus of variations; Euler-Lagrange equations are integrated on computer, and solutions to two point boundary value problem are obtained for aircraft problem without aid of steepest descent process; main part of paper is concerned with four special minimum time problems; solutions to these are presented and compared with one another; comparisons between Green's theorem approach, gradient approach, and classical indirect method are made.
