Serious defect from pilot's point of view is lack of adequate down vision directly forward through front windshield; problem of specifying minimum required down angles for forward and side vision from cockpit; parameters in estimation process are velocity of aircraft with respect to ground, altitude of aircraft, reaction time of pilot, latency of human vision, apparent angular velocity of stationary ground objects as viewed from cockpit, and landing angle of attack; formula is presented, its derivation, and sample calculation for use in ascertaining theoretical visual down angle requirements from cockpit; method is limited to forward vision case; slight modifications would handle side vision case.
