It is shown that as result of complex airport geometry and high traffic volume, control of aircraft on ground is becoming increasingly difficult; poor weather and night add to problems; airport surface detection and control equipment is being developed to assist pilot and traffic controller; cost of systems may cause some to be eliminated.
