In research on hovercraft at Royal Aircraft Establishment, Bedford, control when operating over land is among aspects given particular attention; handling experience with CC2 is described and representative results of control effectiveness tests are given; tests bore out subjective experience of drivers that control forces were limited; hover height achievable was less than anticipated and this aggravated control problem; CC2-001 has been modified so as to have improved hovering performance and controls have also been substantially redesigned.
