With demise of Dyna-Soar, research into re-entry vehicle configurations is concentrated on lifting body designs; under study at NASA are half-cone family of metal glider designs, M-2 and HL-10, M-1 and M-3; M-2 is round-bottom half-cone design, while HL-10 is flat-bottom half-cone; M-1 has 30° cone angle and makes use of inflatable afterbody; M-3 is hybrid, using lifting body combined with variable wing geometry; possible missions and military application.
