Installation and operation of full scale computer-controlled traffic signal system for Metropolitan Toronto is described; control center is in operation on 24-hr/day, seven day/week basis; during greater part of day, including all rush hour periods, computer is used exclusively for control of traffic signals; experience and progress made during past year; extent and capabilities of system and schedule for completing first phase of bringing 500 signals under automatic computer control are reviewed.
