Propulsion system requirements of very long range, high payload aircraft relative to propulsion and laminar flow control are examined with emphasis on turbofan engines; factors influencing optimum design bypass ratio of turbofan engine and effects of laminar flow control and cargo space requirements upon optimum turbofan engine design are shown; parametric study of aircraft performance is used to compare series of industry study engines as means of showing relationship between aircraft and engine design; mission studies included offensive and defensive armed logistics, command and surveillance.
