2-cyl "compound" engine on which data reported were obtained is provided with high pressure cylinder, and low pressure cylinder which serves as compressor as well as working cylinder; primary consideration was extracting of additional work from already partially expanded gases from high pressure cylinder; it is shown that compounding of expansion results in definite increase in thermal efficiency.
