It is noted that launching of SS Soldek in 1948, oceangoing ore and coal carrier of 2400 tons dw inaugurated shipbuilding history in Poland; so far as tonnage built is concerned, during past 3 yr Poland has held tenth to twelfth place among shipbuilding countries and seventh or eighth among those exporting ships; in 1963, shipyards producing seagoing vessels, belonging to United Shipbuilding Industry, i.e., North, Gdansk, Gdynia and Szczecin yards produced 47 units with total tonnage of 227,000 tons gross (296,000 tons dw).
