Design of adaptive roll autopilot for typical air-to-air cruciform interceptor missile with range of 58.5 to 1 in aileron-moment effectiveness; chosen autopilot configuration uses gain-changing loop to control amplitude of quasi-linear limit cycle in main roll-rate loop; flights at three altitudes with widely different aerodynamic histories were successfully simulated; conclusion that design concept is most applicable to tail-controlled surface-to-air, interceptor missile.
