Building of Tinsley marshaling yard, linking up of through routes and closure of subsidiary yards on Eastern Region of British Railways; yard at Tinsley was designed to deal primarily with traffic to and from Sheffield industrial area; there are 11 reception lines with capacities of between 59 and 74 standard cars each, together with hump engine return line and engine line linking with servicing depot; southwest arrival line and reception lines 6 to 11 are electrified on 1500 v d-c overhead system; main sorting yard contains 53 sidings in eight balloons with individual capacities from 80 to 53 standard cars.
