Present state of art and performance of bypass turbojets; interrelationship between various design parameters and specific fuel consumption is investigated showing that while bypass-ratio for optimal consumption depends on operating flight Mach-number, bypass-pressure-ratio represents compromise between optimal weight and optimal consumption and has marked influence on all other design parameters; operating flight altitude rather than flight Mach number has considerable influence on choice of optimal turbine inlet temperature with respect to consumption.
