In any rendezvous mission, target satellite must be detected and located to effect terminal guidance; study was carried out to determine human's search and detection capabilities and parameters that influence his performance; rendezvous situation and human's visual perceptual capability were analyzed, and human observer's ability to detect point source target under given conditions was tested; variables of experiments were line-of-sight (LOS) angular rate, target intensity, practice, and star-field density; results obtained.
