Typical flight corridor for hypersonic vehicles is shown and effect of velocity and altitude on temperature at nose of aerospace vehicle is illustrated; materials selection criteria are examined together with structural requirements; structural concepts considered for hypersonic vehicles include radiation-cooled, Insulated, and internally cooled structure; types of surface structures, namely, sandwich structure, corrugation-skin, and stiffener-skin surfaces; it is shown that corrugation-skin and integrally stiffened structures are more efficient than honeycomb sandwich; mechanical properties of cobalt-base alloy, L-605 (HS-25), and nickel-base alloy, Rene 41.
