Automatic stabilization equipment, differentiated from autopilot mainly in lacking ability to accept pilot command inputs such as changes in heading and attitude, has been used as integral part of military aircraft; serious considerations should be given to extensive use of automatic stabilization equipment; paper shows that its use must ultimately be reflected in cost structure of specific aircraft; undesirable increase could be compensated for by selection of simplified sensor-servo combination, capable of receiving and responding to auto pilot inputs; relatively inexpensive means of obtaining heading control and VHF radio coupling, as auxiliary functions, are available.
