History of development of engine, originally invented in Germany by H. I.A.Dorner, and further developed by Packard Motor Car Co; its general design features and specifications are presented and sequences of operating cycles compared with those of 4-stroke cycle gasoline engine; description of special weight saving features such as crankcase, crankshaft, propeller hub, and valves; four main reasons why engine was not successful.
