Nature and magnitude of aerodynamic interfernce effects with jet and fan lift schemes for V/STOL aircraft are considered, in particular possible adverse flows induced around airframe by jet (or fan) efflux during aircraft transition to and from purely wing-borne flight; paper is based mainly on aerodynamic research at Royal Aeronautical Establishment and concentrates on understanding and analysis of major features, rather than on optimization of specific aircraft layouts; aerodynamic problems which warrant further study are indicated.
