Advantages of nonenergized disk brakes over self energized drum brakes are -- greater stability, negligible fade, less water effect and no roughness; disk brake assembly, developed by Budd Co, is of multiple cylinder, fixed disk, fixed caliper type and consists of 2-piece caliper assembly bolted together in such manner that under influence of hydraulic pressure, caliper deflection is held to minimum; tests show that after first stop, drum brake equipped car, after traveling through 4-7 in. of water from 3-5 mph, required more than twice stopping distance than disk brake car.
