Two basic figures are needed to judge heating requirements of bus; first, heat lost through shell of vehicle in Btu/hr must be found which depends on vehicle size; it is calculated by multiplying total surface area of interior by heat-transmission factor of body and by temperature difference between interior temperature required and temperature outside; when heating requirements of vehicle are known, figure can then be divided by heat output of each heater, to arrive at how many heaters are required; various heating and ventilating systems in use and principles, such as Gen Motors coach air conditioning system, etc.
