Usefulness of boundary layer control (BLC) at knee of trailing edge flap, over wing nose close to leading edge or at knee of leading edge flap is shown; various methods of providing BLC are outlined, comprising slot blowing, slot suction, area suction, inclined air jets, and specially designed airfoil shapes; aerodynamic aspects of slot blowing over trailing edge flaps and wing nose are examined, and slot and area suction considered; associated practical design features required for good performance are discussed and some flight handling implications mentioned.
