During transition of VTOL aircraft or normal operating regime of helicopter, propeller or rotor axis may be inclined at large angles to relative wind, and may be operating at advance ratios very much different from those of conventional flight; aim of investigation was to measure six components (forces and moments) acting at propeller center for wide range of advance ratio, propeller attitude, and blade pitch settings; experiment was performed in NAE (National Aeronautical Establishment) 6×9-ft low speed wind tunnel; results obtained are presented.
