Paper considers methods used by human factors specialists to study relationship between operator and machine, and steps that have been taken to adapt earthmover to operator's needs; basic problem areas involve operator size, ride, and control; psychological aspects of interaction between operator and earthmover during testing; effects of level of motivation, learning, and transfer of training on operator performance are described in terms of laboratory test results.
