Recent development work at General Motors Corp led to production of two new families of integral charging systems featuring semiconductor voltage regulators designed to employ integrated circuit electronic techniques; severe application conditions defined by environment under hood of heavy duty vehicles and passenger cars and tight electrical performance specifications have been satisfied by integrated circuit techniques not previously used in automotive application; semiconductor fabrication techniques are also described; passenger car and heavy duty regulator circuit diagrams are shown.
