Previous method of computing profiles of luminance of earth's sunlit limb, indexed in Engineering Index 1966 p 2815-16, is improved and results are extended through visible spectrum; principal source of limb-profile error, earth albedo variation, is reviewed; profiles are calculated for ozone-containing atmosphere at wavelengths of ultraviolet and Chappius-band absorption; methods of sensing sunlit horizon and signal vs horizon altitude curves are given for suggested two-color, null-seeking sensor with accuracy of approximately plus or minus 1/2 km.
