New method recently made possible consequent upon development by Betz and Prandtl of theory of airfoil and upon its extension by von Bienen and von Karman; aim of theory, which has been successfully applied to air-screw design, is to define accurately axial and tangential losses as well as those due to friction and eddy making, and to arrive at particular screw for which these losses are minimum under conditions obtaining; on basis of foregoing theory experiments have been conducted at Berlin Experiment Tank.
