Paper shows, by selected examples of experimental French and American missiles, that many aerodynamic problems can lead to failure, if overlooked; most of problems are raised by roll stabilization, by decrease of stability at high Mach numbers, by interaction between propulsive jet and external flow, and by recovery of scientific payloads; it is suggested that specially devised low-density wind-tunnel tests can even help in interpreting some scientific experiments.
