Dock development at Port of Liverpool to provide facilities for larger ships and container services is described; fixed-bed hydraulic model was designed to reproduce correct tidal levels and currents in vicinity of new dock by controlling input into or flow out of central section of model by pumping water in at each end at constant rate and spilling surplus over weirs at ends, which were continually raised and lowered as necessary to give right levels and right flow from end to end; sea walls will be constructed in slit trenches employing bentonite displacement technique.
