Examines reasons for decision of Reichsbahn Gesellschaft to build special power station for traction loads on Berlin local-line electrification; it is claimed that such a station would generate at far lower cost per kw. than cost obtainable by purchase; and that purchased power would not be under control of railway company, there would be danger of interruption due to faults on other consumers' apparatus, and that effects of heavy short circuits on station supplying diversified loads are to be feared; author presents statistical arguments to show that it would be advantageous to purchase power in bulk from new Rummelsburg superpower station, eventual capacity of which will be 480,000 kw.
