Of two approaches for providing safety against catastrophic aircraft structural fatigue, "safe life" and "fail safe" methods, author concludes that safe life method is generally inadequate while fail safe method is practical and sound; fail safe attributes of certain materials, stress levels and details of design, summarized from Lockheed tests; from fail safe standpoint 2024 is superior to 7075 aluminum alloy.
