Latest series of type built for British Railways by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co Ltd, resembles earlier 1160 hp design externally, but intercooled Sulzer engine is rated at 1250 hp and electrical equipment has been supplied by General Electric Co; locomotives are geared from maximum speed of 90 mph and transmission has been designed to absorb full engine power up to 80 mph; starting tractive effort is 40,000 lb; weight with 2/3 fuel supplies is 73.5 tons.
