Redesign of deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV) has increased capacity from 12 to 24 men/trip and provides additional space for greater amounts of oxygen and lithium hydroxide for transfer to compartments within stricken submarine; mission plan provides that U S Navy nuclear submarine would proceed to harbor near disabled submarine, to which DSRV and its support equipment would be brought by aircraft; DSRV would be attached to "mother submarine" for transport to distressed vehicle; drawings show arrangements for DSRV with tandem propeller and with ducted thruster configurations; DSRV could be used for oceanographic work when not needed for rescue.
