D NAPIER AND SOX, LTD., have recently for the first time entered the light-aircraft engine field—or perhaps it would be more accurate to say have decided to cater for the private aeroplane owner who desires accommodation in a comfortable cabin for himself and and three passengers. The firm's intention has been to provide a robust engine capable of developing 150 horse-power for Jong periods while in the air and giving lengthy reliable service between overhauls. For this reason they have gone to the six-cylinder in-line air-cooled type, inverted to give the best possible view forwards and downwards The Napier E97 engine actually develops its rated power of 152 h.p. at 2,000 normal r.p m.
