FOR some years past the Challenge International de Tourisme has done much to encourage the development of slow-Hying aeroplanes with a reasonably high all-round performance, and yet of a satisfactorily robust construction which makes them useful for ordinary everyday instructional and commercial flying. Wholesale German participation in this event has resulted in the design of a number of very interesting aeroplanes which, by the use of slats and flaps in various forms, have achieved some remarkably good speed ranges.
