The invention discloses a system for traffic violation automatic recording. The system is characterized by comprising a video and image acquisition module, a pedestrian signal lamp acquisition module, a motor vehicle detection module, a pedestrian detection module, a traffic violation determination module, and a traffic violation automatic recording module. Beneficial effects of the system and the method are that the system automatically and continuously acquires and records motor vehicles which do not avoid pedestrian in a pedestrian crossing region for 24 hours all weather, the system obviously improve efficiency of road traffic control, strictly restrains driving behaviors of vehicle drivers, effectively ensuring traffic safety of pedestrian, and improves traffic efficiency of urban road intersections.
